Louis Vuitton commissioned Vogue to create an advertorial that would showcase their signature luggage line in a unique way. Instead of going the traditional route of using a fashion shoot - which had been done many times before - GQ Editorial Director Grant Pearce and I worked together on this project to use more conceptual, abstract photography that conveyed the idea of travel. We shot in various locations around Beijing that highlighted both modern Beijing - skyscrapers and modern apartment high-rises - as well as traditional Beijing, such as the old “hutong” villages.
In addition to these images, we also shot a short narrative film, based on local Beijing photographer and director Quentin Shih’s own experience of having moved to NYC, only to return to Beijing a decade later and finding it completely changed.
