For the launch of Vogue’s new venture, Vogue Film, we partnered up with electronic product giant Sharp to produce a short film about identity. Director David Barker and I wrote a screenplay about a woman confronting both past and future versions of herself - what she was in the past and what she wants to become in the future.
We were ready to film the entire thing in a majestic abandoned church in the middle of a lush rainforest in Taiwan, but disaster struck one day before the shoot: the worst thunderstorm and flooding in 100 years came down upon us and flooded the entire set. In less than 24 hours, we had to change gears and do the entire shoot in a bare studio. Cue a frantic scramble for props and set design, not to mention a complete reworking of the narrative script!
I’m still sad we didn’t get to shoot in an epic rainforest. I guess I’ll save it for the sequel.
